A career in Graphic Design isn’t as straight forward as getting a degree. While most graphic designers have a foundation degree such graphic design or art, an employer will be more interested in a potential employee’s design abilities and creative ideas. A developed portfolio is extremely important in standing out in this competitive field.
It is also important to have good knowledge of design software such as Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator.
Competition is strong in Graphic Design jobs and not all jobs are advertised. While building contacts is important, it is also important job seekers approach companies with their portfolio directly.
